Trail description
The Valle del Gallo is one of the few places that has remained uncontaminated and wild, with the path that runs along the lake of Livigno, it is an essential destination for bikers.
Leaving from Bormio you must reach Cancano and on this route, the climb towards Bagni di Bormio and then Boscopiano was chosen: a tough but regular climb which, with a series of hairpin bends, leads to Solena, near the Cancano dams.
Cancano can also be reached by car, through the towers of Fraele: in this way the route is much less hard and demanding.
After skirting both lakes, enter the valley, keeping to the left and following the signs for the Valle del Gallo. You pass through Pra Grata and continue as far as the bridge that crosses the Acqua del Gallo.
The route becomes more difficult, but without a doubt more impressive. Suddenly you see the lake of Livigno and the path that runs alongside it, full of charm and not without difficulties: this section requires great caution.
The valley then widens and after some scree, you go up the path with small hairpin bends, until you reach Alpe del Gallo.
The Swiss border is not very far away and can be reached easily. Once you reach Doss del Termel, turn right and once you reach the top of Serraglio, you descend towards Val Mora, on a very sloping track with very marked water drains.
The Val Mora pass it is not far away and can be reached by covering an initial flat stretch with pastures and a wide road and a second stretch on a flat but narrow and technical path.
After crossing the pass, you rejoin the road traveled on the outward journey. You continue along the Cancano lakes, but on the opposite bank and you reach the Fraele Towers.
The only thing left to return to Bormio is a pleasant descent.
