Trail description

The Stelvio Pass from Bormio is one of the highest Alpine passes, with its 2758 m of altitude and more than 40 hairpin bends. The climb is difficult, both due to the height reached and the slopes (average 7% and maximum 14%), but easier than the South Tyrolean side.

Leaving Bormio, the route immediately begins with significant slopes and pass by the famous Bagni di Bormio spa. The route continues with several hairpin bends, which lead to the section with some tunnels dug into the rock, which need attention.

At the end of these, you find yourself facing the hardest section and following a series of 14 bends with a very regular slope.

After a further challenging stretch of a couple of kilometres, you find yourself on a straight road with gentle and pedalable slopes. We are at the final and most difficult stretch: the pass is there, you can always see it, but you reach it with great effort. We are on the last 3 km, near the Umbrail pass, towards Switzerland and the slopes never drop below 8%.

The satisfaction is indescribable and the memory goes away immediately. to the great cyclists of the past, who made this pass legendary. As evidence of this, on the summit, there is a monument dedicated to the great Fausto Coppi.
