Trail description
The Gavia Pass has been an important protagonist of many Giri d'Italia and represents an important climb for cyclists.
The route with starting from Bormio is not easy: there are many changes of pace and several stretches where you can catch your breath.
Starting from Bormio you immediately find yourself facing the first stretch to reach Uzza. The road then levels out as it crosses S. Nicolò and S. Antonio.
At that point the real climb begins which leads to Santa Caterina Valfurva, with challenging stretches. We are about 12 km from the start and the climb to Passo Gavia begins.
The first section is demanding and with a series of switchbacks you quickly gain altitude. The central section is made up of continuous, very demanding stretches which subject the legs to considerable stress. The last stretch flattens considerably and from the Berni refuge the pedaling is always fluid and easy.
At that point the Gavia pass is close and the satisfaction of having conquered such a coveted destination fills with satisfaction.< /p>
Always pay attention to the narrow road and not always optimal surfaces.
