Trail description

The Piz Umbrail by mountain bike has become a very desired destination for bikers, but it is reserved only for the more expert and courageous.< /p>

The climb begins as soon as you cross the state border with Switzerland, at the Umbrail pass.

However, on this track, the ring route starts from the < strong>Cancano and goes all the way up to reach the Bocchette di Pedenolo first and Bocchette di Forcola then (classic mountain biker destination to be tackled in the opposite direction). This climb can be cycled entirely and is an excellent alternative to the Stelvio state road.

The Piz Umbrail can be reached via a path that is difficult to cycle in the first part and very exposed< /strong> in the second. Towards the middle of the climb - which consists of 2 km with a difference in altitude of 500 m - you have to pass some fairly high rocks, holding on to fixed ropes, in a very exposed point.

I therefore recommend the climb to Piz Umbrail ONLY for well-prepared bikers and without fear of exposed sections.

The descent is beautiful, very panoramic and not difficult. The first part is on loose soil and full of loose stones. After that, the trail is pleasant and with a spectacular view of Lake Rims.

The last stretch, after the lake, is more difficult with several hairpin bends.

Then you meet the road that leads from Santa Maria to Val Mora. You must reach Doss Radond and then travel the Val Mora and the Cancano Valley in complete relaxation.
