Trail description
It is not common to be able to do a freeride route with a mountain bike, starting from an altitude of 3000m. Near Bormio there are two alternatives and here we propose one.
The ascent to the Pizzini refuge can be done by pedaling along a dirt road, with very demanding stretches, or with a transfer by jeep from Santa Caterina.
p>The route towards Passo Zebrù is not entirely pedalable, due to the steep slopes, but with breathtaking views. Once you reach the Zebrù pass, you can enjoy a view of Val Zebrù and the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale alpine group.
At that point the fun begins, with an endless descent, with remarkable difficulty initial, with very exposed stretches and a small gully, to be passed with the bike on your shoulders and a hand tightly gripping a fixed rope.
And then the route becomes a very flowy and fun single trail, up to the Baita dei Pastore. Continue along a dirt road that runs through the entire Val Zebrù and leads to the Niblogo car park.
To get to Bormio, you can choose the paved road that goes down to S. Nicolò or you can stay at high altitude and follow the paths that are part of the Granfondo MTB Alta Valtellina route. A track for the bravest, which ensures pure fun.
