Trail description
The freeride track shown here is one of the most beautiful, panoramic and well-known in the Bormio area.
The departure is from the Stelvio Pass strong>, reachable by pedaling for 21km from Bormio or via a comfortable and more relaxing bike shuttle.
The first unmissable destination is the Rifugio Garibaldi, located just above the pass, along a very short but very sloping dirt road.
You enter Switzerland and descend towards the < strong>Umbrail step on a very fun and technical single trail. Once you reach the road that leads to Italy, turn right and via another single trail, sometimes exposed, you reach the bocchette di Forcola, with its military remains, reminders of epic battles from the First World War.
You then go down and keeping to the left you go towards the bocchette di Pedenolo. At that point, the first stretch is covered on a military road, very wide and with an excellent surface. The last part of the descent is quite technical, with a series of exposed hairpin bends, which wind along the very steep side of the mountain.
This section is not suitable for those who do not have good skills techniques.
A simpler descent from the Bocchette di Forcola is by following the Val Forcola, a simpler and much less exposed route.
The return to Bormio can be done by following the beautiful path of Boscopiano or from the towers of Fraele.
