The Foscagno Pass by bicycle
The Foscagno Pass (2,291 m a.s.l.) is an Alpine pass that connects the Livigno Valley with the Valdidentro. The pass represents the only way to reach Livigno without passing through Switzerland (through the Poschiavo Valley and the Forcola di Livigno).
To be covered on a racing bicycle, the Foscagno pass does not present significant difficulties, but the length (about 24 km) and the difference in height represent a climb not to be underestimate.
It starts from Bormio (1225 m asl) and up to Isolaccia (1,345 m asl, about 8 km away) the slopes of the track are gentle and there are no difficulties.
At that point the real climb begins, which with a regular slope, climbs inexorably up to the pass.
The road connects Bormio and Livigno and the traffic - on weekends and in high season - can be considerable and requires you to pay close attention.
The average gradient of the climb is 5.5%, the maximum gradient of 11%, for an overall difference in altitude of over 1000 m.
